Cato the Elder By: Plutarch The Plutarch basically avers that Catos family background was wide. That he came from a beneficial stock of custody. The Plutarch says, his grand pop, Cato, often won prizes for soldierly valour, and received from the extract treasury, beca use of goods and services of his unafraid(p)ry, the price of five horses which had been killed under him in battle. This explains the kind of family that Cato came from. His grandfather was a much respected soldier. The Plutarch besides says, His ancestors comm yet passed for men of no note whatever, besides Cato himself extols his father, Marcus, as a brave patch and good soldier. His men ancestors take in been great men in the past, yet Cato want to be like his dad who was a brave man and a great soldier. The Plutarch indeed says, But he himself used to say that as farthest as office and distinction went, he was indeed new, but having regard to ancestral deeds of valour, he was oldest of the old . His third cognomen was not Cato at scratch, but Priscus. later he got the nick rear of Cato for his great abilities. The Romans call a man who is wise and prudent, catus. He means that Cato thought he was raw in the slipway of the office and of being distinct, but in that knowing the importance of his ancestors he was very wise.

The Plutarch tells us that Catos first name was in reality Priscus, but was changed by the Romans to Cato. His name was changed because catus was known to mean impudent and wise. For Catos outward appearance, he had rosy hair and grey eyes. He had a healthy embody and was in shape with a little muscle on his bones. It was said that Cato had a great char acter.
